Bali Part 1: Detoxing with Sound Healing & Reflexology

I get really excited when I discuss detoxing! Detoxing is now extremely popular and is one of the fastest and most effective ways I’ve found to lose weight, look and feel younger, improve your skin and hair, and feel more energized overall.

I recently had the opportunity to visit beautiful Ubud in Bali, Indonesia. While advising my Bali buddies on the best type of detox for their specific wellness issues, I also discovered Bali’s uniquely abundant detox and enzyme-rich raw food scene.
I’m so grateful for this magical experience, and feel excited to share my journey with you, my new findings about best practices for detoxing, as well as some delicious Balinese detox recipes.

A magical trip to Bali to discover detox

It didn’t matter that the day we arrived, Mount Agung was erupting, and involved in its own mother earth detox intensive. Our group was there for priceless physical and mental rejuvenation, and we were determined to have that experience while overlooking jungles, gorgeous swimming pools and tender rice paddies (and a bit of ash).
We discovered, in the places we stayed and visited, different detox combinations like this beetroot, apple, pineapple and banana detox drink for liver and kidney cleansing at the Om Ham Resort and Spa.

Unexpected changes

As we were sitting on the beautiful wooden terrace of Om Ham, the thunder and lightening around us filled the rice paddies below with a terrible thunder. Our group then decided to make a quick and unexpected dash from Ubud.
We had just gotten word that there was a second eruption, the airport was closed, people were terribly stranded, and the ash could reach dangerous levels when the rain clouds retreated. We were fortunate enough to be able to find a comfortable bus for all of us to travel 15 hours to Surabaya, Java!

Sound healing with Rita

After escaping the volcanic eruption for two days, swimming, sunning, and mentally and physically detoxing in Java, Rita collected all of us for a beautiful and skilfully done singing bowl healing meditation.

Sound meditation is a beautiful and relaxing way to detox your heart chakra and open up your emotional channels in order to let go of negative energy and clear new paths for positive change.
Singing bowl meditation is also a way to connect with your subconscious. The different rhythmic pitches and nuances allows our brain to move from active beta and focused alpha waves into the deeper healing delta waves. The waves of sound share a similar primal nature as drum beats and are said to promote healings of unwell energy patterns which we retain at a genetic cellular level from our ancestors. Because our bodies are made up of mostly water, and water moves with rhythmic sounds, the vibration from the singing bowls saturates all of our cells and helps to move fluids rapidly through our bodies, such as blood and lymph.

If you haven’t tried sound healing, I definitely recommend it as a part of your physical and spiritual detox program for 2018.

Reflexology is my first love

My interest in reflexology started when I was 16 and first read Eunice Ingham’s book Stories The Feet Have Told Through Reflexology. I was fascinated to read about her amazing cures by pressing on the feet! People with long standing issues found they no longer suffered. I read carefully about her technique, something I would remember years later while training in the UK. There were several points she made which were not a part of the International curriculum being taught. Those key points that I added created almost overnight success for some issues with infertility, skeletal subluxations, digestive complaints, hormonal imbalances, etc.

So what is reflexology?

Reflexology was inspired by ancient healing techniques in which one applies pressure to specific areas of the hands and feet. There are even ancient hieroglyphics which show this! The reflexology points correspond to various organs throughout the body via over 7,000 nerve endings in the feet and perhaps even more subtle unseen pathways connecting to our energy sources. So, for example, one can transmit healing energy to their liver by applying pressure to a specific region of the foot.
